Gatesville woman arrested in bizarre robbery attempt

Sarah Regina Pollard, 45, remained in the Coryell County Jail at press time, following her arrest for aggravated robbery.

Bond was set at $150,000 in the case in which Pollard allegedly tried to extort a former coworker whose husband is a retired trooper from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

    Unnerving experience

    Persons in the Evant area Wednesday night may have spotted this intimidating cloud that threatened to become a tornado. Numerous funnel clouds were spotted on both sides of Highway 281 north of Evant, but it was believed that none touched the ground.     Funnel clouds spotted near Evant, Purmela

    Funnel clouds, hail and spectacular lightning displays were spotted Wednesday night, but Coryell County apparently escaped with little damage.

    Storm spotters were out in force, and warnings were sent to area residents as numerous funnel clouds were spotted, especially near Evant.

    Local man drowns

    at Lake Waco Tues.

    A 65-year-old Gatesville man drowned Tuesday in Lake Waco after his boat apparently got away from him at a boat ramp.

    On Wednesday, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton identified the man as Clyde Ives.

    Cowboy at Heart

    Several area churches and businesses presented the second Heart of Texas Salute to Warrior Citizens Sunday at North Fort Hood. Various booths provided entertainment, food and activities, such as the roping area, for soldiers about to be deployed to Afghanistan. The Mother’s Day event also included many giveaway drawings for items the soldiers can take with them on their deployment.

    Man who allegedly fired on deputies among those indicted

    David Ray Sneed, 40, was indicted last week on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, stemming from a Feb. 7 incident where he allegedly fired on law enforcement officers.

    A Coryell County grand jury returned at least 47 felony indictments, involving 38 individuals.
