The Hornets broke a 28-28 tie with Alvarado in the fourth quarter Friday on a 57-yard touchdown strike, before recovering an onside kick, returning an interception to the house and recovering a fumbled kickoff in the end zone to claim the Class 3A bi-district championship with a 48-28 win.
Gatesville senior quarterback Cole Edmiston, who finished with 250 yards and five touchdowns through the air, was one of many at Waco Midway’s Panther Stadium dazed by the wild finish.
