Mary Ruth Thompson, 84, of Gatesville, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at a Waco hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Scott’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Covey officiating. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson was born on June 11, 1928, in Sagerton to the late Lee Roy Blackwell Sr. and Mamie Webb Holton Blackwell. She attended schools in Jonesboro and lived in Jonesboro and Gatesville most of her life. She married Jimmie Thompson on April 26, 1955, and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1997. She was a nurse’s aide at many of the local nursing homes and at Coryell Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ann Durfee of Gatesville, Debbie Rhudy of China Spring and Ladonna Thompson of Gatesville; step-daughter, Martha Marie Russell of Tennessee; sons, Sonny Garman of Gatesville, Dennis Thompson of San Antonio and Keith Thompson of Gatesville; step-son, Chris Thompson of Gatesville; and numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Thompson’s name to the New Beginnings Worship Center, 1012 Main Street, Gatesville, Texas 76528.
