“Buzz” Harrington, age 72, of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.
A come and go celebration of life visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 at Coryell Community Church.
Bobby Gene Harrington was born on Aug. 28, 1952 to the late Bobby Dean and Martha Ann Hooper Harrington in Dallas. He moved to Gatesville during his early years and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1971. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and later worked as a manager at H.E.B. in Gatesville. He married Joan Sanders on Dec. 19, 1975. Buzz worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and retired at the age of 51. In his spare time, he enjoyed looking after his animals and supporting his daughter and granddaughter through their various activities. He was probably best known for being an umpire at the Gatesville City ballpark.
Buzz was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Emma Jean Harrington; brothers, Ricky Harrington, James Harrington, and Larry Harrington; and sister-in-law, Jean Brookshire.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of 48 years; daughter, Stephanie Hester and husband, Carey; brother, Darrell Harrington; sister, Deanna West; grandchildren, Madison Hester and Malachi Trevino; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Gatesville High School Softball Program, c/o Gatesville I.S.D., 311 South Lovers Lane, Gatesville, Texas 76528.
