JW Featherston passed away on Aug. 31, 2024, surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at Scott’s Funeral Home with Rev. Garland Baker and Rev. Kurt Fuessel officiating. Interment followed at Greenbriar Cemetery.

JW (Scoopy) Featherston was born on Dec. 22, 1945, to the late Robert and Pearl Estelle Featherston in Gatesville. JW was raised in Gatesville and joined the Navy where he met the love of his life while stationed in Boston, Massachusetts. Joan and JW were married in 1967 and celebrated 57 years of marriage. After having children, they returned to Gatesville to raise their family. Scoopy retired from the military and civil service after a total of 34 years of service to his country. In retirement, Scoopy spent his time fishing, hunting, and loving his grandchildren. JW was a member of Mountain Baptist Church, and he loved his church family. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Greenbriar Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Hooker and Catherine Smith.

Scoopy is survived by his wife, Joan Featherston; daughter, Tammie Clover and husband, Don; sons Robert Featherston and wife, Jenny, and Jimmy Featherston and wife, Janet; grandchildren, Breanna, Katie, Luke, Jacob, Seth, Lauren and husband, Trent, Jeremy, Kallie, and future great-granddaughter, Bonnie; sisters, Nancy Thompson, Martha James, and Ruby Barnard; and brothers, Leslie Featherston, Ray Featherston, and John Featherston. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and the fish he did not catch.
