Righteous Roots to host annual DWTS event Nov. 16: Latino Style

Posted

Local non-profit organization, Righteous Roots, has announced that it will host its third annual Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) event, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Gatesville Civic Center at 5:30 p.m.

This year’s DWTS event will be slightly different since there will be no couples or competition. The theme will be, “Latino Style” to celebrate and honor Latin culture and Righteous Roots culturally specific programs.

This past year, Righteous Roots received a federal grant to begin providing culturally specific services to Spanish-speaking families within the community.

“We are doing it Latino style this year in order to celebrate and honor Latin culture as well as to give a nod toward our programs’ accomplishments this year,” Righteous Roots Founder Melanie Webb said.

Live entertainment will feature Arthur Murray Austin, which will include a group of professional dancers that specialize in Latin dance as well as Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklorico de Texas, which will have a group demonstrating various dances from different countries.

A dinner will be provided by local businesses, which will include beef and chicken fajitas from Tiny House Café, churro beans from El Tapatio, rice from Tatazo’s, chips and salsa from Mi Chaparrita, desserts, beverages, and more.

Ages 13 and up are welcome to attend the event, and the dress code will be dressy but not formal.

Righteous Roots is also looking for up to 30 volunteers for the event.

“It is open to adults or teenagers,” Webb said. “We have tried to do just teenagers in the past, which has been phenomenal, but we want to open it up. There are many adults who want to come to the event who haven’t always been able to afford the tickets, so this way they have the option to volunteer and help with the event that night while getting to attend it and getting fed at the same time.”

To volunteer for the DWTS event, contact Melanie Webb by email at melanie@righteousroots.org.

Tickets will cost $50 per person and will include the meal and live entertainment. There will be approximately 200 tickets available which can be purchased by visiting the website, RighteousRoots.org and looking under the tab, “Upcoming Events.”

Table sponsorships for the event should have been secured by Sunday, Sept. 15, but Webb mentioned that if anyone is still interested to contact her as soon as possible at 254-651-3600.

The Gatesville Civic Center is located at 301 Veterans Memorial Loop.
