Come out to our free Pearl Bluegrass event Oct. 5

Posted

The next Pearl Bluegrass event and Pearl Cottage Bookstore Day takes place on October 5th. Jamming at the Pearl Community Center takes place all day long on Saturday, and the stage show begins around 1 p.m. This event is a free event! The Bluegrass Kitchen opens at 11 a.m., and you can purchase homemade lunch items and delicious desserts for very reasonable prices (cash only). Remember, when you purchase food from the kitchen, you are helping to support the Pearl Community Center. The money goes toward bills and upkeep and maintenance of the building. We want to keep this building up and running for years to come so that people can enjoy future bluegrass events and other community functions in this wonderful, historic building. You can also rent the building for family reunions, weddings, etc. To play on the stage during the bluegrass event, your band can sign up on the board in the hallway that day. If you need any help, you can find Chris Ray or Garrett Dickey in the building, and they’ll be glad to answer any of your questions. The Pearl Cottage Bookstore opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. There are over 6,000 books in the store as well as various and sundry other interesting items. Kay and Corlisa will be glad to help you! Most purchases are by donation (buy what you want, pay what you want), and the all the money goes toward local charities. You may enter as a stranger in the bookstore, but you will leave as a friend! There’s no place like Pearl, so let’s be sure and support these events…and tell others about the magic of Pearl!

Mark your calendars for Oct. 20 for the Pearl Church of Christ 129th Homecoming! Dr. Charles Patterson will be the speaker, and there will be a catered lunch following the service. Plaques for the longest attending member, the youngest attending that day, the oldest attending that day, the longest married couple, and the farthest traveled that day will be given. You don’t want to miss this important event! Bring family, friends, and those you just met to Pearl Church of Christ. The friendliness of this church is unparalleled!  You will be so glad you came!

The beginning of the fall season prompted Linda and Kay to reminisce about fun times in the past last week. One event they talked about was a community hayride on Halloween several years ago. As Linda and Kay were riding along with the kids on the hay trailer, the kiddoes spotted a ghost! However, one of the kids said, “Oh, it’s not a ghost. That’s just Mrs. Adams. I recognize her shoes.” Mrs. Maureen Adams had joined in the fun to scare the kids, but she just didn’t realize how recognizable her shoes were. Mrs. Adams worked at the Evant School for more years than I can count, and she was loved by all! Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Alma Ray were two of the most beloved Evant School staff members in the history of that school, and all of us who were blessed to know them cherish their memories forever! Well, that’s not the only funny thing that happened during that hayride. At some point, Linda and Kay got off the hay trailer in the Pearl Cemetery. They had their flashlights, or thought they did, and had plans to scare the kids. Somehow, though, the trailer left the cemetery without them, taking the ladies’ flashlights with it. Linda and Kay had to walk back in the dark. I guess it just wasn’t a good night to be ghost that Halloween. I wonder if Linda and Kay would consent to a replay this coming Halloween. Maybe the itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, turquoise greeny, stringy bikini could join in the fun this year? Who knows! There’s no place like Pearl!

This week’s Bible verse comes from Isaiah 41:10—So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. NIV
