FEMA announces job openings in Texas

Posted

FEMA is currently seeking to employ local hires who are interested in helping Texas communities recover from the storms and flooding that occurred between April 26 and June 5.

FEMA seeks people with experience in environmental protection, engineering, communications, geospatial information systems, hazardous materials, planning, and other occupations. FEMA says these positions may last up to 120 days or longer, depending on the operational needs of the disaster.

FEMA Spokesperson Nikki Campbell said the hourly wage for each position varies, but the pay can range from nearly $17 per hour to almost $51 per hour.

Although the positions are based in the Austin or Houston area, Central Texas residents are more than welcome to apply, Campbell adds.

FEMA local hire employees are eligible for the following benefits:

  • Health insurance for individual or family coverage
  • Flexible spending accounts
  • Federal long-term care insurance
  • Ability to earn four hours of paid sick leave per pay period
  • Holiday pay
  • Worker’s compensation

According to FEMA, applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age or older, and must possess a high school diploma or GED. Individuals will be required to pass a background investigation that includes fingerprinting and a credit check. Potential employees must provide their own transportation to and from work and live within 50 miles of the employing office.

Employees are also required to participate in mandatory direct deposit or electronic funds transfer for salary payment.
