Evant Picks Up First Win

The Evant football earned its first victory of the season on Friday night, defeating Buckholts by a score of 72-24.

Coach Brandon Young said he was proud of his team's effort against the Badgers and said it was good for the Elks to get a W under their belt.

“I thought our kids came out prepared and focused,” Young said. “We won the turnover battle, which was huge for momentum swings. We’ve waited a long time for this win. It feels good to get it, but it’s a continual learning process.”

Evant's last victory came against Zephyr on Oct. 29, 2021.

The Elks will try to make it two in a row on Friday when they host Mount Calm, and Young said his team will have its hands full once again.

Coach Janey Weber said it was a strong effort from her team in the victory over the Rockets and said that she was especially pleased with the way her team persevered until the very end.

“I am very proud of the way we fought in our game at Robinson,” Weber said. “Robinson is a very well-rounded team and made us go work. There were times in the game they were up by about six points. We kept our composure and worked one point at a time to keep us in the game. At the beginning of game five, you could see the look in the girls' eyes. They were ready to compete.”

Emma Pollard finished the game with 25 kills for the Hornets, and Taylor Sanderson “set a great game.”
