Local mother daughter duo Candice Vazquez and Charlie Sommerfeld opened Charlie’s Wags & Whiskers, a rescue and adoption center for cats and dogs, in August of 2023. It encompasses an adoption and animal rescue center, a doggy daycare, offers boarding, a dog park, and a boutique for the animals named the Paw Bar Boutique. As a fulltime high school student and business owner, Sommerfeld was presented with the Business of the Month award for April to honor her for her hard work and dedication. Charlie’s Wags & Whiskers is located at 111 West Main Street in Gatesville.
