Boys & Girls Club Resale Shop chosen for KWTX, Slovacek’s newscast

The Boys & Girls Club Resale Shop was recently featured on KWTX’s Thursday evening broadcast, Brady’s Backyard BBQ, which highlights a local nonprofit in Central Texas.

The news station encourages the public to nominate their favorite local nonprofit for the segment, which is sponsored by Slovacek’s Sausage in West. The restaurant serves free barbeque to the nonprofit volunteers while Chief Meteorologist Brady Taylor shares the story and mission of the selected organization.

Director of the Resale Shop Lisa Steward said staff and volunteers of the local consignment store were surprised and proud to be chosen.

“It takes many people many hours to sort, clean, price, and display all the donations we get each day, so this was a wonderful way to be rewarded,” Steward said. “We appreciate Slovacek’s and KWTX for making this happen.”

Steward adds that about 20 volunteers and 12 staff were on hand to enjoy the barbeque. As a local, secondhand store, the Resale Shop’s support from the community mainly stems from donations, volunteers, and customers.

Profits from the Resale Shop benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Gatesville, a branch of the national organization that promotes the growth of leadership, health, career development, artistic, and life skills in children ages 6 to 18. The current total membership of the club in Gatesville is over 550 kids.

Brady’s Backyard BBQ’s feature on the Boys & Girls Club Resale Shop aired on Thursday, June 27, on the 6 p.m. broadcast. To nominate a Central Texas nonprofit, visit www.kwtx.com/backyardbbq/
