Gatesville Lions install new officers for 2024-25

The Gatesville Lions Club recently held their Annual Banquet on Wednesday, June 12, at Junction 36 Restaurant where new officers were installed by Lions Club District Governor Renee Lamson.

Outgoing President Jeremy Stills announced that Lion Dr. Eric Moffett had been named Lion of the Year and was also elected to the office of president of the club. In addition, others named for the 2024-25  year included Oliver Puhr, First Vice President; Shawnee Miller, Second Vice President and Secretary; Zack Miller, Treasurer; Greg Couture, Lion Tamer; Carroll Hamilton, Assistant Lion Tamer; Dr. Britt Clay, Tail Twister; Jeremy Stills, Assistant Tail Twister; Kathy Harte, Song Leader; Joyce Talbott, Membership Director; Jeremy Stills, Past President; and Rhonda Mohler, Executive Secretary.

Lions Club Directors named for 2023-25 included James Marques, Greg Couture, and Dora Jean Dyson. Directors named for 2024-26 included Tom Creek, Charles Talbott, and Chris Hunt.

Lion Dora Jean Dyson presented to the group a list of long-time Lions that had been in the organization for over 20 years. That list included: Bob Brown, 46 years; Ronnie Sullins, 46 years; Dr. Bob Bates, 44 years; Allen Place, 43 years; Phillip Zeigler, 41 years; David Byrom, 40 years; Steve Norris, 40 years; Daren Moore, 35 years; Scott Johnson, 31 years; Rhonda Mohler, 32 years; Dora Jean Dyson, 30 years; John Clawson, 29 years; Britt Clay, 27 years; Richard Mackay, 25 years; Gary Chumley, 23 years; Chris Bergman, 21 years, and Grant Kinsey, 20 years.

Dyson also spoke about the club’s charter date of April 19, 1935, and of the past presidents, the first being Floyd Zeigler in 1935.

Our motto, WE SERVE, is implemented by providing community programs such as free glasses for needy children, scholarships for Gatesville HS graduates, financial support for the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Special Olympics, The Big Sting, The Cody Stephens Foundation, and by encouraging Lions to take an active role in community projects such as the Gatesville Care Center, Senior Center, and the Boys & Girls Club.
