Columbus Day is a holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492.
Although Columbus Day is no longer a mandated state or federal holiday in Texas, many businesses and governmental offices will observe Monday, Oct. 10, in celebration of Columbus Day.
Closings and openings in the immediate area include:
GOVERNMENT
The city offices of Gatesville, Oglesby, and Evant will be closed on Monday.
The Coryell County Courthouse will be closed on Monday.
The Farm Service Agency will be closed on Monday.
SCHOOLS
All local schools will be closed on Monday.
FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS
Cadence, Educators Credit Union, and The First National Bank of Gatesville, Evant, and Oglesby will be closed on Monday.
POST OFFICES
All local post offices will be closed on Monday.
SENIOR CENTER
The Gatesville Senior Multi-Service Center will remain open on Monday.
NEWSPAPER
The Gatesville Messenger will remain open on Monday.
