Protective film purchased for GISD windows

Posted

The Gatesville Independent School District approved the purchase of resistant film for windows to enhance school security during a meeting on April 17.

Yancey Sanderson, executive director of testing and federal programs, said there are "10 or 11 different requirements" to qualify for a grant for the protective film, and that "windows are modified so the glass cannot be so easily broken. The film goes inside the window. It makes it like a car windshield — the glass will break but not fall out, and it's harder to climb through."

The estimated cost for the film for school windows, which will be completely covered by the grant, is about $125,000.

"This film will be in place so that if a bad guy is trying to break in, he'll have a difficult time getting through," said GISD Superintendent Barrett Pollard.
