Texas Lions Club Foundation Grant aids local flood victims

Posted

This past week on Tuesday, May 28, Gatesville Lions Club members Rhonda Mohler, Joyce Talbott, and Charles Talbott presented Brad Hunt, Interim City Manager and Police Chief, with a grant in the form of HEB gift cards totaling $3,000.

The donation is in response to the extensive flooding that struck Gatesville and Coryell County in early May, which caused widespread damage and devastation.

Lisle Meeker, Texas Lions Foundation member, contacted the local Gatesville Lions Club to encourage members to apply for the grant. Dispersal of the funds has been facilitated by Brad Hunt.

Hunt has seen the damage and loss due to recent flooding and agreed to disperse the funds to already known local community households to assist with food, clothing, and temporary housing loss.

The local Lions Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to Temple Lion, Lisle Meeker, District Trustee for the Texas Lions Foundation for his pivotal role in initiating and facilitating the grant opportunity.

The Gatesville Lions Club meets every Wednesday at Junction 36 Restaurant at noon for lunch.

The club engages in numerous community programs, including providing free glasses for needy children, awarding scholarships to Gatesville High School students, and offering financial support for the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville.

Additionally, the club supports Special Olympics, The Big Sting, The Cody Stephens Foundation, and encourages active participation in community projects such as the Care Center, the Senior Center, the Salvation Army, and the Boys & Girls Club.
