Chavez named as 2024 Outstanding Performer

This past week, Gatesville High School student Jonathan Chavez was named as an Outstanding Performer by the Texas State University Interscholastic League (UIL) Solo and Ensemble Contest.

The Outstanding Performer Award is the highest recognition the UIL gives to high school students and is equivalent to being named as a state champion.

Chavez performed a Euphonium/Baritone Horn Solo and was among approximately 25,000 musicians who go head-to-head for the same award each year.

Less than two percent of students who give a solo performance in Texas receive the award, and Chavez was one of them.

The award is given to soloists who demonstrate exceptional musicianship in the contest’s demanding environment.
