Sheriff’s Office warns residents of scam

Posted

Several county residents have reported a scam where someone impersonates an employee of the Coryell County Sheriff's Office, according to a Facebook post by the agency.

The scammer goes by an Officer/Detective “Avery,” who is calling to advise that the call recipient has missed a jury summons and citations have been issued in their name.

The sheriff’s office said they do not have an employee that goes by “Avery.”

The scammer is calling from (254)-853-6875, but other numbers could be involved.

“Additionally, the sheriff’s office does not and will not call anyone to tell you that you have a warrant,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “Please do not give anyone you do not trust any financial information and do not send anyone money or gift card information over the phone.”
