'Topping out' celebration held at new district court building site

Butler-Cohen, one of Coryell County’s contractors for the development of a new district court in downtown Gatesville, held a topping out ceremony for the project’s construction team.

Subcontractors and representatives from the county were served a barbeque lunch on Thursday, June 20, to celebrate the progress of the new building.

The purpose of a “topping out” ceremony is to honor a project’s milestone. According to Miron Construction, the ceremony is a construction tradition that occurs when the final structural beam is raised into place, completing the building’s frame.

Also called the Leon Street Annex, the building is scheduled to be completed by January 2025. It will house the 440th District Court, justice-of-the-peace courts, constables for Precincts 3 and 4, and Texas Game Wardens.
