Melva was born in Gatesville, Texas in 1958 to Melvin and Lorene Jacobs. Melva and her two sisters lived on a farm in Coryell City for the entirety of their childhood. She attended Gatesville schools, where she made lifelong friends. Melva grew up in the Lutheran faith. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City, a church she continued to support throughout her lifetime.

Melva married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Lynn Williamson, in June of 1977, and they began their life together in Gatesville. Melva attended McClennan Community College following high school and worked as a secretary at the Guaranty Bank in Gatesville. She was blessed to be able to stay home with her girls for their elementary school years and then completed additional coursework to pursue her passion of working in the field of architecture, owning her own home staging business and becoming an interior designer.

Throughout her adult life, Melva served in her church community in many ways and supported both local and foreign mission work. Additional hobbies she enjoyed were crafting, gardening, working puzzles, and playing games with friends and family. She held a strong faith in God and embraced challenges with a positive mindset up until her last day.
