Joanne Herring, age 90, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024. Graveside services were held at Ater Cemetery on Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. with Matt Dossey officiating. There was no set time for visitation. Viewing was available Tuesday until 8 p.m.
Joanne was born Jan. 30, 1934, near Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Henry Edward Thomas and Frances Earline (Kent) Thomas. She married Darrell Herring on April 25, 1954. Joanne was a licensed vocational nurse at Hillcrest hospital. She worked as a neurosurgery nurse for many years. Joanne loved to play her mandolin with all of her music friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell Herring in 2001; and brother, Edward Thomas, Jr.
Joanne is survived by two sisters, Barbara Mullins, and husband, Dennis, of Montana, and Francie Welling, and husband, Stephen, of Arkansas; sons, Bob Herring, and wife, Linda, of Morgan, Tom Herring, and wife, Linda, of Colorado, and Jack Herring, and wife, Shelley, of Gatesville; daughter, Mary Anne Wiley, and husband, Alan, of Bryan; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
