Roy Snoddy March 2, 1941 – June 16, 2024

Posted

Roy Snoddy was born on March 2, 1941, in Levita at the family home place to the late John Alford Snoddy and Minnie Mae Bullard Snoddy. Roy attended schools in Levita through junior high and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1959. Roy married Shirley Ann Wolske in 1965, and they made their home in Gatesville where they raised their children. Roy served in the Army National Guard for twenty-three years and retired from Civil Service in South Fort Hood as a heavy equipment mechanic shop foreman. He was recognized with various awards for his excellent mechanical skills and his ability to save the government money.

Roy loved to go fishing and camping, and he also loved to play dominoes. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Roy found pure joy in helping others and could fix anything. No project was too big or too hard for him. He was MacGyver before there was a MacGyver. Very important discussions happened during the back porch “smoke breaks.” He was quick to listen, slow to speak, and never accusatory. Roy had a listening ear and was always interested in what was going on in the lives of others. He will be dearly missed by friends and family.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Caroline Snoddy and Christine Patterson; brothers, Roger Snoddy and John Jr. Snoddy; and brothers-in-law, Lew Weldon Meeks and Jerry Wolske.

Roy is survived by his wife, Shirley Snoddy; son, Ronnie Snoddy, and wife, Susan; daughter, Kimberly and Daisy Rios; grandchildren, Ashley Holt, and husband, Jeremy; Dr. Cody Blackstone, and wife, Bianca; Dylan Snoddy; and Baylee Snoddy; great grandsons, Brayden and Cooper; sister, Mary Meeks, brothers, Sam Snoddy, and wife Gloria; and Don Brookshire; sisters-in-law, Ruth Snoddy, and Martha King, and husband, Delvin; brothers-in-law, Earl Wolske, and wife, Beth; Gene Wolske, and wife, Glenda, Charles Wolske; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
