Obera Spradley Godwin, age 100, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Jonathan Ford officiating. Interment followed at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.

Obera was born in Prosper, Texas to Floyd D. and Hattie Patterson Spradley. She was the seventh of eight children. She grew up in Prosper and completed her education in Lubbock before moving to San Angelo. She was a loving, caring, and fun mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was always involved in her church, bible study, and helping others. She loved her flowers and took pride in her immaculate yard. Baking sour dough bread was her passion, but the real gift was sharing it with family and friends. Obera volunteered for many organizations through the years, but her service with Hospice was near and dear to her heart. She was an avid golfer who passed her love of the game to her grandchildren. At age 67, she made a hole-in-one at Slick Rock golf course at Horseshoe Bay while playing with her golf group. When moving to Gatesville in 2010 to be closer to her family, she continued to play golf.

Obera is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Paul Godwin; son, Michael Mercer; and all her siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Karla Reaves and husband, Les; grandchildren, Jim Reaves and wife, Glynis, Karen Reaves Kerr and husband, Chad, and Cody Mercer; great-granddaughter, Poppy Kate Kerr; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by a bonus son, Paul Godwin and wife, Petra; bonus granddaughters, Holly Godwin Conaway and husband, Brian, Heather Godwin Wood and husband, Brandon, Hope Godwin George and husband, Justin; nine bonus great-grandchildren; and two bonus great-great granddaughters.

Obera loved bright colors. Her family requests that those who knew her wear them in her honor.

Obera’s family also extends their sincerest thanks for the love and care by Amedisys Hospice, The Oaks, and Welcome Program at Coryell Health. To Susie Keeney, Helen Ward, and Lourie Terry, our deepest appreciation for your constant compassion and love for Obera.
