Pearl to raise money for "His Kids" at annual fish fry, auction

Posted

The annual Pearl Church of Christ Atchley Fish Fry and Silent Auction benefiting His Kids of Lampasas is Sept. 1. Beginning at 10:30 a. m., the speaker will be Dr. Charles Patterson, former Superintendent of Killeen ISD and a Hamilton native. After the church service, you can enjoy a free fish dinner with all the trimmings. The auction will begin shortly after lunch. Bidding is now open at the church, so go by and peruse the many, many items and place your bids on the accompanying bid sheets. Your generosity is greatly appreciated as all proceeds go toward scholarships and the summer Christian camp program for the kiddos. Be sure and let your Killeen friends know that Dr. Patterson will be in Pearl that day.  Everyone is invited to attend. Visitors are always welcome at Pearl Church of Christ.

The Pearl Bluegrass and Pearl Bookstore Day held on Aug. 3 was a joy-filled day. If you missed these events this month, plan to go on Sept. 14, Oct. 5, Nov. 2, and/or Dec. 7. Free jamming goes on all day, and the stage show begins at 1 p.m. Bands are welcome. If your band would like to play on the stage, just show up and write your band’s name on the blackboard. There are several rooms in the Community Center in which to warm up. Garrett Dickey, President of the Pearl Community Center board and Chris Ray, Vice-President, will be glad to have you in Pearl. Be sure and visit the Bluegrass Kitchen, which opens at 11 a.m. Their delicious homecooked foods are cash only and very reasonably priced. There is no admission to attend the stage show or to participate in the jamming. This is an awesome place to bring your local nursing home residents for a music-filled outing. Be sure and go to the Pearl Cottage Bookstore, which opens at 9 a. m., a charity house where most items are purchased by donation. They call it “buy what you want, pay what you want.” Corlisa and Kay would love to see you. All proceeds go toward local charities. Since there are over 6,000 books and various sundry other items, you will probably find a lot of things you just can’t live without. Be there or be square!

The East Gatesville Cat Whisperer aka Mr. Ron McDonald (also a valuable part of Pearl-most of the time) now has two new kittens, though not by choice. His precious wife just could not live without the new family members. As I understand it, Ron is not a fan of the new acquisitions, but the two little kitties absolutely adore him. Who wouldn’t? Apparently, one sleeps on his head and the other takes up residence wherever the mood strikes it…feet, tummy, etc. Our Cat Whisperer has named the felines “Linda” and “Marilyn,” after the two women who cause him the most trouble. According to TCW (The Cat Whisperer), Linda the cat “talks too much” and Marilyn the cat “wants too much.” (Please don’t tell those sweet ladies I told you that). Wouldn’t it be nice if TCW had one more cat named Kay? TCW has other names for the two current kitties, but they cannot be printed here. I’ll let you know in a few weeks how the new McDonald family members are doing…and if they survive…. or if The Cat Whisperer survives. If I were a betting woman…

This week’s Bible verse comes from Hebrews 12:1b and 2a: “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” NIV
