Susan Marie Edwards Kozora, age 70, of Gatesville, passed away at home on June 4, 2024, after enduring several health struggles.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove with Fr. Augustine Ariwaodo officiating. Private interment followed at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Susan was born on Aug. 22, 1953, to Thomas and Rosemary (Reilly) Edwards in Johnstown, PA. While at Bishop McCort High School, she met her future husband, Ronald Kozora. Susan attended Shippensburg University and graduated with a degree in social work. She would go on to work with special needs adults and child protective services before supporting her husband’s Army career and having and raising her children Daniel, Mark, and Emily. The military brought the family to Texas and after her husband’s retirement, Susan became a special education teacher. She taught mostly in Killeen ISD, eventually becoming the principal of Hay Branch Elementary School. Shortly before her retirement, she returned to teaching life skills for a few years at Gatesville Intermediate School.
Susan was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church and participated in several ministries including those involved in women’s prisons, pregnancy help centers, and Adoration. She had a servant’s heart and also had an interest in the social issues impacting our country.
Susan was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Rose Ann (Edwards) Zorn. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Ronald; son, Daniel and his wife, Katie; son, Mark and his wife, Ashley; daughter, Emily and her husband, Joseph; sister, Mary Jane McCready; grandchildren, Briley, Samuel, Ella, and Luke; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and in-laws in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
