Pearl News

Attention All Pearl Bluegrass and Pearl Cottage Bookstore Lovers: Today, Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, is the day you’ve been waiting for. Gather your friends and family and head to Pearl.

The Bluegrass is ongoing in various places in and around the Pearl Community Center, and the Pearl Cottage Bookstore is open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The next bluegrass and bookstore event is Dec. 2—same times, same places. Remember, everyone is welcome, and there’s no place like Pearl.

Pearl is so grateful for the wonderful rains they received during the latter parts of October. Many places around Pearl reported up to eight and nine inches. Prayers work, folks.

A faithful reader just called to ask me to warn readers who are driving through Pearl to “Beware of the Turtle Crossings!” Apparently, turtles are on the move due to the recent rains. Now, you might want to also beware of those community members who actually pull over and get out of their vehicles to help those travelers crossing the roads. The safety of all involved is our utmost desire and concern. So, Beware of Turtle Crossing Helpers might be the more apropos adage.

I also received a call regarding a teeny weeny, turquoise greeny, stringy bikini sighting. Evidently, local creeks burst forth from their banks and in great, rolling waves carried away the things that were not tightly secured. The blasted bikini may have been one of those things. Apparently, it was last seen ebbing away toward Gatesville, and most likely landed near Raby Park. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s one of Kay Pruett’s favorite hangouts. We all knew that the atrocious apparel had an unusual attachment to Kay. The prevailing thought here is that the abominable outerwear planned to spend Halloween with its favorite Bookstore lady—in the park—ON the lady. We only wish Kay loved the sassy suit as much as it loves her. If you heard a ruckus in the park on Halloween night, you could probably surmise that the source of the conflict had to do with the one and only teeny weeny, turquoise greeny, stringy bikini and its bestie. I think Mr. L. McDonald and his lovely wife were probably called to mediate…and we hope Mr. David Scott got pictures. In any case, we think that the silly bikini saga may be over for Pearl—and some of us say “good riddance.”

This week’s Bible verse comes from James 5:7-8— "Be patient then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”  NIV

Please thank the Lord for the generous rain, and pray for our country, Israel, and our schools!
