Righteous Roots stepped up to the plate for its community softball tournament

Local non-profit organization Righteous Roots recently hosted a community softball tournament to raise funds for its establishment. This will be the first of a few upcoming fundraisers that Righteous Roots will be hosting.

The tournament took place at the Gatesville ballpark on Saturday, Aug. 10.

“It was a huge success,” Righteous Roots Founder Melanie Webb said.

There was a total of nine teams present who competed in the event, with some travelling all the way from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Each team was able to have the opportunity to participate in the Homerun Derby and “Hit the Pin” competitions.

“The day was made manageable due to several selfless volunteers who helped with the concession stand, t-shirt/toy table, and entry,” Webb said.

The concession stand was full of snacks due to the various donations from local businesses, which included Laerdal, HEB, and Sonic.

Webb expressed her gratitude toward the Gatesville Parks & Recreation Dept for allowing the use of the ballfields, as well as Payton George with GTX Elite Athletics for organizing the tournament and donating two bats.

Locals Kevin and Karen George with Gatesville Drug and Diamond K Tees & More also donated the prizes for the tournament winners.

“We offer our deepest gratitude to every person, organization, and player who braved the heat to make our tournament successful,” Webb said. “We made lasting connections and look forward to doing it again next year.”
