Bible Conference and Heritage Sunday to be held at Cornerstone

Posted

Former professional golfer Kermit Zarley headlines the third annual Bible Conference and Heritage Sunday at Cornerstone, April 21-23. Zarley will present four sessions on theology and prophecy.

Zarley, who played golf for the University of Houston and later co-founded the PGA Tour Bible study, said he is looking forward to his return to Texas.

“I lived in Houston for over 30 years before moving to Phoenix,” he said. “I actually went to church with Hal Lindsey (author of The Late Great Planet Earth).

Zarley said he has a quite different perspective than Lindsey, but has titled his two-part presentation, “The Late Great Plastic Empire.” Those sessions will be at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

In 2008 Zarley published The Restitution: Biblical Proof that Jesus Christ is not God. OnFriday starting at 7 p.m., Zarley will describe his spiritual journey to what is referred to as Biblical Unitarianism, the belief that God is one person and Jesus is his only begotten son.

Cornerstone pastor Greg Demmitt said a desire to further understand Biblical Unitarianism sparked Cornerstone’s first Bible Conference in 2018 with Kegan Chandler.

“Several folks from the church met Kegan at a Dallas conference and wanted to hear more about this teaching,” Demmitt said. “Our church has always held to this simple understanding, but it’s never been a point of emphasis, so our people wanted to learn more.”

Chandler will speak on “Filial Piety, the Essence of Christianity” at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Other speakers include Kevin George, Albert Valdez, and former University of Texas quarterback David Ash.

“David connected with our church several years ago when he discovered we held to this simple understanding that God is one person and Jesus is his son,” Demmitt said. “We’ve been pleasantly surprised to make connections with folks all over Texas who are interested in this perspective and expect we’ll have quite a few in attendance at our conference.”

The conference will conclude on Sunday with worship at 11 a.m., followed by a carry-in dinner. Zarley will speak on “Proofs of the Resurrection.” For a full conference schedule, see Cornerstone Gatesville on Facebook.
