Students from Mound receive scholarships

Mrs. Doris Dean (Coston) Smith died Saturday, April 27. A Celebration of Life in memory of Doris Dean Smith will take place on Saturday, June 22, at Trinity Church of Nazarene in Oklahoma City.  Mrs. Smith is the cousin of the late Mr. James Truett Hopson and family of Mound.

Several seniors of Mound attended the annual academic/scholarships program in Gatesville last Friday evening at the Gatesville High School Gymnasium.

Matti Mann received three scholarships Friday evening at the scholarship banquet. One was from MJ Hannah, Coryell County youth fair David Treadway Memorial, and Area Go Texan Greg Weber Memorial.

Coby, Sarah, and Kate Jones came Friday night. Coby presented the Brack Jones scholarships at Gatesville High School Banquet.

Scott, Kelby, Sterlin Shults, Case, Kristen, Paxton Brack, and Don Jones took Sue out for lunch at Crawford for Mother’s Day.

Emma Blakley graduated from Texas A&M Friday with her bachelor’s degree in animal science.  Robert and Carolyn Blakley, along with Jerry, Brenda, and Neil Helms, and several of her friends were there.  After graduation they all went to dinner at a restaurant in Bryan and celebrated Emma Blakley.

Jerry and Paula Bomar had all their children and grandchildren home for the Mother’s Day weekend.

Justin and Randi Strong, of Gatesville, visited during the Mother’s Day weekend with Martha Lawhorn and Elizabeth Phillips.

Several people from Mound attended the annual GCOC Spring Swing Golf Classic Tournament, Silent Auction benefiting GCOC Jr. Ambassadors Scholarship fund.  Sponsorships were available. The tournament included events:  a catered lunch, 50/50 Raffle, Hole in one prize Winner, Cash Tournament Prizes, Long Drive Contest, and Closest to the Pin Competition Saturday afternoon. It was hosted by the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce.

Those who have birthdays this weekend are Kim Dahl and David Hopson.
